Everyday you get the opportunity to set the tone of your day – positive or negative – you choose. The key to every new day its the refusal to reload yesterday on today’s canvas.
As Christians we must be the light that the world is yearning to see. There is so much going on in the world that it is now more important than ever for Christians to not only shine but to shine brightly. It should be our joy; it should be our living, moving testament to the goodness of God. What sets a christian apart from his non-christian counterpart? We go through some of the same trails and tribulations right? Yes! We encounter some of the same life ordeals that seek to pull the carpet from up under your feet. The difference is we serve a mighty God that sets every captive free – who heals and delivers. The God, who gave his only, begotten Son that You may live and not just live but live abundantly. That’s epic!
You are the salt and light of the earth. Be the one who holds your head up in trying times. Be the one to share how you came through. Be the one who holds on to that hope without wavering. Be the one who in the face of adversity can still stand and declare the favor of God. See tribulation is not what sets you apart – what sets you apart is that you stand on the promises of God not within your strength but the strength of God.
There are seven days in a week and we save our shout and our praise for Sunday. Don’t just leave leading souls to Christ to your pastor. What if you crossed paths through the week with someone who has been searching relentlessly for that ray of light that you have. God gets the glory when we allow our lives to be used for his glory in every place we tread.
In the same way, let your light shine before others so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father, who is in heaven. Matthew 5:16
You can make the decision to begin strong. It will take a focused determination to be all that you are created to be. The important factor to remember is that situations – circumstances can never control you unless you allow them. It is your attitude that will determine your altitude. Call upon your courage today – allow it to be your driving force to arrive at your greatness.
I love taking escapades – unplanned trips that will enlighten and open my heart and my mind. Will you make such a trip with me today? I promise the journey won’t be the one you’ll soon forget. Ready? Let’s go. The place we stop is in Samaria, there we will see Jesus and the lady at the well. She is there to draw water – something I’m sure she does daily. Jesus always raises the bar – detouring to a place off the beaten path to provide a miracle that would shake up the life of the Samaritan woman for good. Jesus stops to rest and ask the Samaritan woman for a drink of water. She was drawing daily from a well that she would have to return continually. Jesus would provide life and love – something more everlasting. He knew her life from beginning to end – her rights and her wrongs. The pivotal moment when he could have sent her away ashamed, condemned and forsaken – he sent her away with love and a renewed hope. He planted a new seed in her life – one that wouldn’t just stun her for the moment, but one that would transform her life for the rest of her life.
As Christians, we too will meet people on the paths of life – some that will not look like us – behave like us, believe like us. What seeds will we plant? There is a shift in seasons here in America – the Supreme Court has ruled for same-sex marriages in all 50 states. Many are outraged – but in the outrage let’s not lose focus on the real call of Christ. I wish that I could dig into the Bible and find a place in it where God sent the sinner away without imparting his heart – and his unconditional love for them. I don’t even have to look far, and you don’t either – You’re his beloved too. Cleaned and restored from sin – and sin remembered no more.
Who God is and what He stands for isn’t disputable. He is the great I Am and forever will be. He is the rock of all ages. The hurting needs to be loved – the lost needs found and the broken needs to be restored. We have all fallen short of the glory of God but aren’t we glad for his GRACE? We can fight for what’s right – but let’s fight with love and stay on the path of righteousness that God has planned for the each of us. The example – His example is all that we need to shine our lights brightly for the world that becomes darker by the day. The only picture I see and the example I want to exemplify is the hand that God was always willing to extend even when we were undeserving.
The day and hour are soon to come, let’s do the work of Christ diligently – lovingly and expediently. We don’t have to agree, but we are called to love wholeheartedly.
But God shows his love for us in that while we are still sinners, Christ died for us.
The word of God changes not.
I give you a new commandment: love one another. Just as I have loved you, you must also love one another. By this, all people will know that you are my disciples if you have a love for one another.
Have you enjoyed the journey? The world needs you now – it needs your faith, your hope and your love. A light isn’t lit and hid behind a bush; it shines brightly – forcing darkness away. The greatest show of love is the one that exemplifies the heavenly father. Remember that the God of miracles, forgiveness, mercy, hope, love, kindness, patience still reigns today.

Have you been to the well? Are you on your way? The woman at the well wasn’t there looking for anything – she was going about her daily life – trying to get a refill for her water jug for the day. Perhaps she would be cooking with it, bathing with it, or just getting her fill for the day just in case something called for it. Maybe she went there every day. It was a familiar place to her. I wondered if she had anything in particular on her mind. She had no idea what or who she would encounter that day, but she would encounter something so unfamiliar in a familiar place – Jesus.
Are you in a familiar place in need of an unfamiliar encounter with Jesus today? It is often in our familiar places where God meets us and changes the view. Have you been to the well before and hadn’t noticed him? Take a second look – he is who you have been searching for all this time.
She reaches the well and finds Jesus who engages her in a conversation. A conversation so out of the ordinary – she was a Samaritan woman and he was a Jew. He ask her a question “Can you give me something to drink?” She then thinks odd and says, “You have no pail.” Matter of fact she questioned why he was even talking to her. You know the story – Jews never associated with Samaritans. She was at a turning point in her life – that would change her life forever. She showed up thirsty, but she will leave quenched.
That they should seek God, in the hope that they might feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us, Acts 17:27
Jesus tells her something about herself – he tells her you are with man, but you have no husband. Now how would it be possible for this stranger to know that? He had to get her attention. I suppose that would get your attention as well. He didn’t beat on his chest and say, “do you not know that I am Jesus?” He speaks gently with her while explaining that he has a fill – that will quench every thirst. He has the only living water that would give her a new purpose – a new life. She came with a pail that she would soon leave behind, because she now had life.
He changed her life first by doing something so frowned upon in society – he acknowledged her as his own. He gets personal with her – by letting her in on his omnipresence. He knew her though she knew him not. He then gives her one of the greatest gifts she would ever receive – life.
In your familiar place – don’t miss the God moments that have come to greet you – the gentle conversation that comes to get your attention. You don’t have to travel down a new road to meet him – he is on each and every path you travel. He ask do you need a fill. He beckons for you to come to him – seek him – commune with him. Wherever you are – he is also. You may be traveling thirsty, but he has your fill.

All aboard! All Aboard – you hear the words so crispy clear. The flight attendant is urging you to climb on – not much time to wait. How did you end up here at the gate with nothing packed? You plead please,” I must go take some things to carry on, All I need is a moment.” To your disappointment she says, ” I’m sorry but there isn’t room -you must board as you are with what you have.”
You are left with a decision. You want to go where you’re going, but you think – just one carry-on will be absolutely necessary. No time to pack – the destination promising – you board without the essentials you think you need.
There are times you have to just climb aboard. Don’t think – rehearse – figure out what is packed – what isn’t packed. These are the GO moments of life that we must all take to get to the other side of ourselves. Relinquishing our plans for the divine plan of God. Swapping our luggage for the exchange of his luggage. Just maybe the luggage you are trying to carry isn’t properly packed – it’s overstuffed. Are you willing to board with just his promise and his plan – or will you give more value to your luggage? Does your luggage take the place of God? There is greater value in the luggage he has for you. Sometimes you just have to climb aboard and find out for yourself.
There is beauty in the climb aboard. You’re agreeing to partnering with God to reach the promise land. Recall that Israel wasn’t completely convinced that where they were going was better than what they left – boarding was an unfamiliar place for them. They wanted their luggage. God is ready to part the red sea, but you have to be willing to walk – to climb up from where you are. To fly high and not low. To take the leap of faith that surely will take you to places where remembrance of the luggage you once held becomes a distant memory. All aboard! All aboard – can you hear the call.
All this also comes from the Lord Almighty,
whose plan is wonderful,
whose wisdom is magnificent.
