Faith Over Fear Psalm 56:3-4
We love comfortable. It’s true our beds must be just right, our coffee brewed to our heart’s delight and perhaps fluffy sock are preferable. We have to admit that sometimes comfortableness can be very very good. Then on the flip side, it can be very bad. When you are building a legacy, changing the game, building something that will outlast you requires stomping out it’s the greatest enemy and hindrance – comfortableness.
All the great people that have done great things before you probably weren’t so comfortable. They may have had ideas that were less than popular and that went against the grain. They destroyed the box that had a pretty prepackaged way of doing things, and they discovered the ingenious – the limitless possibilities of just daring to be different. Daring to dream things that took great doses of courage nobody else had. The power of believing that they were created for more and that the more wouldn’t come to where they were comfortable but to where they were drawn out into the deep where there was no certainty.
I never knew that I could swim and not sink until I was so deep in that there was nothing to hold me up but the courage that I must swim or drown in these waters of comfortableness.
What will you gain by taking a step?
As Christians we must be the light that the world is yearning to see. There is so much going on in the world that it is now more important than ever for Christians to not only shine but to shine brightly. It should be our joy; it should be our living, moving testament to the goodness of God. What sets a christian apart from his non-christian counterpart? We go through some of the same trails and tribulations right? Yes! We encounter some of the same life ordeals that seek to pull the carpet from up under your feet. The difference is we serve a mighty God that sets every captive free – who heals and delivers. The God, who gave his only, begotten Son that You may live and not just live but live abundantly. That’s epic!
You are the salt and light of the earth. Be the one who holds your head up in trying times. Be the one to share how you came through. Be the one who holds on to that hope without wavering. Be the one who in the face of adversity can still stand and declare the favor of God. See tribulation is not what sets you apart – what sets you apart is that you stand on the promises of God not within your strength but the strength of God.
There are seven days in a week and we save our shout and our praise for Sunday. Don’t just leave leading souls to Christ to your pastor. What if you crossed paths through the week with someone who has been searching relentlessly for that ray of light that you have. God gets the glory when we allow our lives to be used for his glory in every place we tread.
In the same way, let your light shine before others so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father, who is in heaven. Matthew 5:16
Being in large audiences or just the thought of speaking in front of a lot of people use to have me trembling in my boots. Speak in front of who I would ask? I’m talking about sweat dripping, tongue-tied, take cover nervousness. I’ve grown out of that – having people staring at you waiting to see what you have to say is not all the bad. Often we think we are going to make a huge mistake, maybe forget what we were going to say, and the list goes on. In high school, I would hear my mother speak of toastmasters, but I never knew what it meant. She was often called to speak, rather in her local church or affiliated churches in other states. I assumed toastmasters had something to do with her job, and I suppose you can say it did. She was confident and well-spoken and I could probably ascertain to where she developed her skills.
Toastmasters International is a world leader in teaching people how to communicate efficiently and lead within their communities. Members who wish to improve their speaking and leadership skills can join for a minuscule fee. Want to try it out? Toastmasters welcome guest, it’s like trying it on before you join the group. It will provide you a welcoming environment and the ability to meet new people who have the same goal as you. Information can be obtained at http://www.toastmasters.org. Meetings occur twice a month but the one I attended meets weekly.
I picked up the phone one day and made contact with a member who encouraged me to participate in the next meeting. I didn’t know what to expect, but I am a firm believer in if you want something you must be willing to get it. You must be ready conquer your fears and nervousness. I did, and it was great. It was, first of all, fun. There were speeches, impromptu’s, jokes and learning tidbits. It was worth it. I didn’t feel like the guest – I felt like part of the team that joining was without question. Maybe you are not speaking for a living but just looking to communicate better with the ones you love, or learning to interact better in work environments. Whatever the case there is something for everyone.
“If we did all the things we are capable of we would astound ourselves”
~ Thomas Edison
To do something you never done – you have to create in ways you never created!
You can make the decision to begin strong. It will take a focused determination to be all that you are created to be. The important factor to remember is that situations – circumstances can never control you unless you allow them. It is your attitude that will determine your altitude. Call upon your courage today – allow it to be your driving force to arrive at your greatness.
I love taking escapades – unplanned trips that will enlighten and open my heart and my mind. Will you make such a trip with me today? I promise the journey won’t be the one you’ll soon forget. Ready? Let’s go. The place we stop is in Samaria, there we will see Jesus and the lady at the well. She is there to draw water – something I’m sure she does daily. Jesus always raises the bar – detouring to a place off the beaten path to provide a miracle that would shake up the life of the Samaritan woman for good. Jesus stops to rest and ask the Samaritan woman for a drink of water. She was drawing daily from a well that she would have to return continually. Jesus would provide life and love – something more everlasting. He knew her life from beginning to end – her rights and her wrongs. The pivotal moment when he could have sent her away ashamed, condemned and forsaken – he sent her away with love and a renewed hope. He planted a new seed in her life – one that wouldn’t just stun her for the moment, but one that would transform her life for the rest of her life.
As Christians, we too will meet people on the paths of life – some that will not look like us – behave like us, believe like us. What seeds will we plant? There is a shift in seasons here in America – the Supreme Court has ruled for same-sex marriages in all 50 states. Many are outraged – but in the outrage let’s not lose focus on the real call of Christ. I wish that I could dig into the Bible and find a place in it where God sent the sinner away without imparting his heart – and his unconditional love for them. I don’t even have to look far, and you don’t either – You’re his beloved too. Cleaned and restored from sin – and sin remembered no more.
Who God is and what He stands for isn’t disputable. He is the great I Am and forever will be. He is the rock of all ages. The hurting needs to be loved – the lost needs found and the broken needs to be restored. We have all fallen short of the glory of God but aren’t we glad for his GRACE? We can fight for what’s right – but let’s fight with love and stay on the path of righteousness that God has planned for the each of us. The example – His example is all that we need to shine our lights brightly for the world that becomes darker by the day. The only picture I see and the example I want to exemplify is the hand that God was always willing to extend even when we were undeserving.
The day and hour are soon to come, let’s do the work of Christ diligently – lovingly and expediently. We don’t have to agree, but we are called to love wholeheartedly.
But God shows his love for us in that while we are still sinners, Christ died for us.
The word of God changes not.
I give you a new commandment: love one another. Just as I have loved you, you must also love one another. By this, all people will know that you are my disciples if you have a love for one another.
Have you enjoyed the journey? The world needs you now – it needs your faith, your hope and your love. A light isn’t lit and hid behind a bush; it shines brightly – forcing darkness away. The greatest show of love is the one that exemplifies the heavenly father. Remember that the God of miracles, forgiveness, mercy, hope, love, kindness, patience still reigns today.
